Consequences of sowing wheat as a Kharif crop
- Wheat is a rabi crop grown during the winter months from “October to March”.
- Khariff season is the summer and rainy season during the months from June to September and crops that require more water like paddy, cotton, maize etc are grown.
- Wheat does not require much water to grow since it is a winter crop and requires cool winters with a mildly hot summer. It is sown in winter and harvested in “late spring or early summer”.
- If it is sown in khariff or rainy season, the seeds might not get germinated in the waterlogged fields.
- Further, wheat also requires less light and hence not advisable to grow during the bright summer season.
- Heavy rainfall or too much light might cause wilting of the leaves, less production of seeds or grains leading to decreased output.
