Everyone is familiar with the unpleasant feeling of vomiting when you are ill. Not only is the taste unpleasant, but the acidic contents of your stomach burn your throat too! That's because sufficiently concentrated acids have a high concentration of the H+ ion, or proton. There is nothing pleasant about vomiting, but if your stomach acid were much more dilute--much fewer protons--then at least the unpleasant burn would go away!
