What Is Biodiversity and why do we need to conserve it?

Bio + Diversity = Biodiversity where bio means life and diversity means variety (varities of plants, animals and other organisms that live/present on earth).

Their are lots of varities of plants and animals that are present on our earth. And the reason for their conservation is that many of them are extinct. In short to prevent them from extinction.

What are the causes of extinction of plants & animals and how can we conserve them?

Cutting of tress for agriculture purpose leads to loss of habitat of animals and also leads to decrease in number of plants & animals species. Other human activities such as hunting, pollution and fishing; in addition to it climatic changes also causes the extinction of plants and animals.

Ways to conserve:

• In-situ conservation: wildlife sanctuaries,

national parks, biosphere reserves.

• Ex-situ conservation: zoos, botanical gardens, seed banks etc.
