Consider a flow of water in a cylinder maintained at constant temperature of 100 degree celsisus, the diameter of the cylinder is 50mm and the length of the tube is 6 m. the inlet and the outlet temperature of the water is Ti=1 degree C, To=57deg C. find the average heat transfer coefficient associated with the flow of water. Mass flow rate is 0.25Kg/s and Cp = 4.178 kJ/Kg.K

The average heat transfer coefficient associated with the flow of water maintained at constant temperature of 100 degree celsisus is given as follows.

1. Let Q be the heat energy possessed by water.

2. Q=mcT, where m is the mass of water (assumed to be 1kg), c is the specific heat of water and T is the absolute temperature (in K).

=>Q=1×4.186×373

=>Q=1561.378J/gm°C

3. The heat transfer coefficient (h) can be calculated using the relation

Q=hA(Ti-To)

where, A is the surface area of tube (cylinder).

=>1561.378=h(2×pi×0.025×6)(1-57)

=>h = 29.58 kW/m^2°C
