In general, the pieces that are produced when a straight cut is made across the middle of a rectangle at any angle are always of equal area.

The two pieces produced by the cut will always have an equal area because the cut divides both rectangles in half. Each piece is the same size as the entire cake, less the area of the rectangular piece that was removed. If the cake's height is constant throughout, this yields two portions of the same size.
