We have a number of laptops and projectors that our users can come and check out as a resource. They sit on a shelf right now so our engineers can come grab them when they need them.
The problem we run into is that people take them without checking them out or don't return them on time. Of course they get angry at us, but we're just providing them a service and they are responsible for them.
We have thought about having a central person available to hand them laptops as they request them and only during the week during business hours, but this causes two issues. First, they like to be able to take them as they need them and second, that this causes more work for us in the IT department. We're already over worked as it is, so we don't have time to monitor this closely.
I was just curious how other companies handle situations like this to maybe get an idea of what works for you.
Thanks!
