Consider the barometer shown in figure. If a small hole is made at a point P in the barometer tube, will the mercury come out from this hole?

There are no chances that the mercury can come out of the hole.

Explanation:

On point P, two pressures act on them.

(i) Due to the mercury level, the pressure above point P becomes equal to P1.

(ii) Atmospheric pressure is denoted as Po, which is inwards.

Additionally,

P0 > P1

It is to be noted that the inward pressure will be more. Thus, there are no chances that the mercury can come out of the hole.
