BC{ l }_{ 3 }  reacts with water to form boric acid and it easily undergoes hydrolysis being a Lewis acid.

BC{ l }_{ 3 }\quad +\quad 3{ H }_{ 2 }O\quad \rightarrow \quad 3HCl\quad +B(OH{ ) }_{ 3 }

But CC{ l }_{ 4 } do not undergoes hydrolysis because of lack of vacant orbital in carbon atom. Therefore, it does not readily accept the electrons from the water to form an intermediate.

If we mixed CC{ l }_{ 4 } with { H }_{ 2 }O to form two different layer. Therefore, these are called as immiscible liquids.

C{ Cl }_{ 4 }\quad +\quad { H }_{ 2 }O\quad \rightarrow \quad No\quad reaction.
