consider the electrolysis of water. the two carbon electrodes are connected to a 6 V battery and are immensed in water. a few drops of acid are added to water. two test tubes filled with water are kept inverted over the electrodes . current is switched ON and the Apparatus is left undisturbed for sometime.
1) what characteristic for the reaction takes place?
2) write the ratio of volume of gases collected in each test tube .
3) which gas is present in each test tube ?
4) give test for the identification of each gas.
5)give balanced chemical equation.

please give the answer as soon as possible.I will mark as brainliest if upto the mark

Answer:

Explanation:

1. Decomposition reaction. Water molecule splits into Hydrogen and Oxygen

2. 1:2(Oxygen:Hydrogen)

3. Test tube A contains Oxygen. Test tube B contains Hydrogen.

4. Bring a burning candle near both testubes after inverting and you will observe pop sound.

5. 2H20---> 2H2 + 02

Consider the electrolysis of water. the two carbon electrodes are connected to a 6 V battery and are immersed in water.

Explanation:

Electrolysis of water

It  is the decomposition of water into oxygen and hydrogen gas due to the passage of an electric current.

Electrode :

Anode : Carbon electrode

Cathode : Carbon electrode

On passing current , water splits into hydrogen and oxygen :

H₂O---> H⁺  + OH⁻

Reaction at cathode :

2H⁺ +  2 electron --> H₂

Reaction at anode :

4OH⁻  - 2electron ---> 2H₂O + O₂

2. The ratio of volume of gases collected : Hydrogen : Oxygen

                                                                                    2   :    1

3.The gas present in :

anode : Oxygen

Cathode : Hydrogen

4.The identification test for :

Hydrogen :

When you bring match stick near the mouth of test tube , it starts burning with blue flame and popping sound .

Oxygen :

Oxygen supports combustion so a good method of testing for oxygen is to take a glowing splint and place it in a sample of gas, if it re-ignites the gas is oxygen

5. The balanced chemical equation is :

2H₂O-----> 2 H₂ + O₂
