The total resistance ( RT ) of any two or more resistors connected together in series will always be GREATER than the value of the largest resistor in the chain. In our example above RT = 9kΩ where as the largest value resistor is only 6kΩ.
When two or more resistors are connected so that both of their terminals are respectively connected to each terminal of the other resistor or resistors, they are said to be connected together in parallel.
The value of parallel combination of R2 & R3, each of 2 Ohms, is 1 Ohm. So total Resistance in the circuit is 5 ohms (2+2+1) . The Current, therefore, would be 5 Volt/5 ohms= 1 Amp !
