Consider the following combination reaction:

2 H2 + O2 ------> 2 H2O
If you are provided with 10 molecules of hydrogen and 10 molecules of oxygen, which reactant is the limiting reactant? And, what is the maximum number of water molecules that can be formed?

That's because our oxygen is our limiting reactant or limiting reagent. It's limiting this whole process simply because it's giving such a small amount that we can only form 36 grams of water with this amount of oxygen.
