Unformatted text preview: citizens of Georgia. This led to many people criticizing the Cherokee people and calling them violent and savage. The treatment by the white people just made the relationship further deteriorate and created more violence. Ironically, not on the Cherokee’s part, as they chose to take the state of Georgia to court instead. In addition, I believe there was a racial bias that attributed to the Cherokee removal. The white people did not believe the Cherokee people to be smart enough to keep the land and create farming opportunities. What we would now call an ethnic cleansing took place, essentially trying to rid the region of the Cherokee people. This brought about a division in the Cherokee people and while some decided to move west, other Cherokees chose to stay and fight for their land. So while this is about land, I do believe that there were other factors in play....
