Given : Function f(x) = 3x + 1 and the graph of the function g(x)

To Find : graph g(x) is the graph of f(x) translated

Solution:

f(x)  = 3x  + 1

x        y = f(x) =  3x  + 1

-2         -5

-1           -2

0           1

1            4

2            7

3             10

in  g(x)

x              y = g(x)

0             -5

1              -2

2              1

3              4

g(x)  =  3x  - 5

f(x) =  3x  + 1

g(x) = 3x  - 5  = 3x + 1 - 6 = f(x) - 6

Translated y , 6 units below

Hence  f(x) ( x, y)  and g(x) = (x , y - 6)

or g(x) =  3x  - 5  = 3x - 6 + 1  = 3(x - 2)  + 1

or x shifted  2 units right
