Consider the motion of a car along a straight line. The car starts from O, reaches P. And then returns to Q.

The distance is 700m
The displacement is 300m

Vector quantity are quantities which have both magnitude and direction .i.e. displacement has direction and magnitude but distance has only magnitude, that's why it is always more than displacement
