Consider the sets φ, A = {1, 3}, B = {1, 5, 9}, C = {1, 3, 5, 7, 9}. Insert the symbol ⊂ or ⊄ between each of the following pair of sets.(i) φ ….. B (ii) A ….. B (iii) A ….. C (iv) B ….. C

Dear Student,

Solution:

symbol ⊂ or ⊄ are used for subset of and not a subset of.

Subset: A set is called the subset of another set let B ,if all the elements of A present in set B.

Phy (φ)/ empty set is subset of all sets,because φ does not contain any elements.

The sets φ,

A = {1, 3},

B = {1, 5, 9},

C = {1, 3, 5, 7, 9}.

Insert the symbol ⊂ or ⊄ between each of the following pair of sets.

(i) φ ⊂ B ; empty set is subset of all sets

(ii) A ⊄ B; All the elements of A are not present in B.

(iii) A ⊂ C; All the elements of A are present in set C

(iv) B ⊂ C ; All the elements of B are present in Set C .
Hope it helps you.
Thanks for asking such a nice question.

******************************************

Subsets :

Let A and B are two sets .

If every element of A is an element

is an element of B , then A is called

a subset of B .

-> Every set is subset of itself .

-> Null set is subset of every set

I hope this helps you.
