Given data : Consider total distance between Chennai and Bangalore is 300 km.

  • Train A starts at 2:00 PM, travels at a constant speed of 100 km/hr from Chennai to Bangalore.

  • Train B starts at 2:00 PM, travels at a constant speed of 50 km/hr from Bangalore to Chennai.

To find : What time both the trains meet and at what distance from Chennai they meet ?

Solution :

Here, according to given,

  • Speed of train A = 100 km/hr
  • Speed of train B = 50 km/hr

Now, to find the time of both trains at which they meet.

⟹ Speed of train (A + B) = Distance/time

{ Where,

  • Distance = distance covered by train A and B }

⟹ 100 + 50 = 300/Time

⟹ 150 = 300/Time

⟹ Time = 300/150

⟹ Time = 2 hour

Hence, train A and B meet after 2 hour, according to given after 2 hour mean 4 PM.

Hence, train A and B meet at 4 PM.

Here, we know train A start moving forward from Chennai. { Trains take 2 hours for meeting from starting }

Now,

⟹ Speed of train A = Distance/Time

⟹ 100 = Distance/2

⟹ Distance = 100 * 2

⟹ Distance = 200 km

Hence, train A and B meet at 200 km from Chennai.

Answer : Train A and B meet after 2 hour after start moving and train A and B meet at 200 km from Chennai.
