The state shall provide free and compulsory education to all children of the age 6 to 14 years in such manner as state may, by law determine (86 amendment, Act 2002). Now by 93rd amendment of the constitution the primary education has made a 'Fundamental Right'.

Explanation:

The true aim of education is overall development of the child- be it cognitive, social, moral or spiritual.

• Primary education lays the foundation for this.

• The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act means that every child has a right to full time elementary education of satisfactory and equitable quality in a formal school.

• This Act will ensure that the vast majority of children in rural areas, towns and slums areas of big cities get an opportunity for 'free and compulsory' education.

• RTE ensures that even the children from underprivileged classes and economically weak background get an opportunity to get formal education.

• This increases literacy rate, inculcates ethical values and imparts knowledge and a skill set to the children which necessary for employment.

• RTE will not just change the face of education in India, but also bring about positive social change, progress and prosperity.
