Given Question :-

Construct a frequency table for the following monthly rent (in rupees) of 30 shops using equal class intervals, one of them being 40-50 (excluding 50).

42, 49, 37, 82, 37, 75, 62, 54, 79, 84, 75, 63, 44, 74, 36, 69, 54, 48, 74, 39, 48, 45, 61, 71, 47, 38, 80, 51, 31, 43.

Given data is

42, 49, 37, 82, 37, 75, 62, 54, 79, 84, 75, 63, 44, 74, 36, 69, 54, 48, 74, 39, 48, 45, 61, 71, 47, 38, 80, 51, 31, 43.

The frequency distribution table is as follow :-

\begin{gathered} \small\begin{gathered} \small\begin{gathered}\begin{gathered}\begin{gathered}\boxed{\begin{array}{c|c|c} \bf Monthly \: Rent& \bf Tally \: marks& \bf Frequency \\ \frac{\qquad \qquad}{} & \frac{\qquad \qquad}{} & \frac{\qquad \qquad}{} \\ \sf 30-40 & \sf \cancel{||||} \: \: |& \sf 6 \\ \\ \sf 40-50 & \sf \cancel{||||} \: \:||| & \sf 8\\ \\ \sf 50-60 & \sf |||&\sf 3 \\ \\ \sf 60-70& \sf ||||&\sf 4\\ \\ \sf 70-80& \sf \cancel{||||} \: \: ||&\sf 7\\ \\ \sf 80-90& \sf ||&\sf 2 \\ &&\frac{\qquad \qquad}{} \\ && \sf Total -30\end{array}} \\ \end{gathered}\end{gathered}\end{gathered}\end{gathered} \end{gathered}

Basic Concept Used

1. Determine the minimum and maximum value of the variate occur in the given data.

2. Be sure that there must be classes that include maximum, minimum values.

3. Take each observation from the data, one at a time and put a tally marks ( | ) in the class to which it belongs. If tally marks are more that 4, then keep them in a bunch of 5, the fifth is marked as crossing the four tally marks.

4. Now, count the tally marks of the respective class, it gives the frequency of the class.
