I would draw an 8 cm straight line as one diagonal. 

Now get your compass out and set it to 6 cm. 

Put the compass at one end of the line and draw an arc. 

Put the compass at the other end and draw another arc. 

Where the arcs intersect (one point above the line, one point below the line), draw points. Connect those points with a straight edge to draw the sides and the other diagonal. 

Measure the diagonal. 

Hint: It should be about 8.94 cm.
