Construct a segment of a circle on a chord of length 5\ cm containing 90\ degree angle.

Following steps:

  • Draw a line segment AB=5\ cm
  • Both at point A and B, draw  45\ degree angle each (by drawing angle 90\ degree each first and then drawing the bisectors AO and BO from A and B respectively.)
  • AO and BO meet at O which is the center of the circle, hence \angle AOB=90\ degree
  • Now, OA as a radius,draw an arc connecting A and B. So, The shaded region is the required segment on the cord AB=5\ cm. Containing  \angle AOB=90\ degree at the center.

Now, AB is the chord of the circle as shown in figure.
