• Que: Ram wants to make a flag. So, he goes to the market and bought a square shape piece of fabric. He return to home and decrease its length by 1 miter and breadth by 2 miter. Now, he found its area as 12 sq miter. So, what was the length of square fabric?
• Sol: Since, Ram bought a square shape fabric piece. It means all its side lengths were equal in measures. We assume its side length was x miter.

• But, he decreases its length and breadth by 1 and 2 miter respectively. Therefore, it is converted in rectangle.

• Now, its Area = $length \times breadth$

$12 = (x-1) \times (x-2)$

$12 = x^2 -2x-x +2$

$12 = x^2 -3x +2$

$x^2 -5x + 2x -10 = 0$

$x(x -5) +2 (x -5) = 0$

(x -5) (x + 2 ) = 0

x = 5, -2

Since, x is the length. so it can't be negative. So, x = 5 miter.

Thus, the length of square was 5 miters.
