QUE: A square shape fabrics is cut in such a way that its parallel sides is decreased by 5 cm and 2 cm respectively. Now, its area is 270 sq cm. What was its original side length?

Sol: let's assume the side length of square was x miter.

Now, its side lengths are (x-5) and (x-2).

It means that it has converted to the rectangle.

Area = (x-5) \times (x-2)(x−5)×(x−2)

   270 = x^2 -7x + 10270=x2−7x+10

   x^2 -7x - 260 = 0x2−7x−260=0

   x^2 -20x + 13x - 260 = 0x2−20x+13x−260=0

          (x -20) (x + 13) = 0

             x = 20, -13

Since, length can't be negative. So, 20 cm is the original length.
