Sunil is 5 years older than his brother and product of their ages is 50 years. Find the present age of Sunil

SOLVE

Let present age of Sunil = x years and present age Sunil's brother is (x-5) years

So by the given condition

$\sf{x(x - 5) = 50}$

$\sf{ \implies \: {x}^{2} - 5x - 50 = 0 }$

$\sf{ \implies \: {x}^{2} - 10x + 5x - 50 = 0 }$

$\sf{ \implies \:(x - 10)(x + 5)= 0 }$

$\sf{ \implies \: x = 10 \: , \: - 5 }$

Since age can not be Negative

$\therefore \sf{ \: \: x \ne \: - 5}$

$\therefore \sf{ \: \: x = 10}$

Hence present age of Sunil = 10 years
