Question: If twice the age of daughter is added to age of father, then the sum is 76 and if twice the age of father is added to age of daughter then the sum is 98. Find the age of father and daughter.

Solution:

Let

     x = age of daughter

     y = age of father

Given,

     2x + y = 76  --------(1)

     x + 2y = 98  -------(2)

Solving (1) and (2), we get x = 18 and y = 40
