I’ll begin by listing the properties of the triangle.

It is an isosceles triangle, which means that two sides are the same length and that two of the internal angles are the same.

It is a right-angled triangle, which means that one internal angle is 90°.

The hypotenuse is the longest side of the triangle and is the side opposite the right angle.

Now for the construction.

You will need a piece of paper, some hard card or similar to rest it on, a ruler marked in millimetres, a pair of compasses, a set square/protractor and a sharp pencil.

Designate a point ‘O’ that is near the middle of the paper. Fix the pencil into the pair of compasses and, using the ruler, set the distance between the point of the pencil and the compass point at 35 mm. Stick the point of the compass into point ‘O’ and draw a circle. Draw a straight line (through ‘O’) that bisects the circle; label the points where the line intersects the circle as ‘A’ and ‘B’. Using the set square/protractor, draw a straight line from ‘O’ that is perpendicular to the line AB and touches the circle; call this point C. Draw a straight line from ‘C’ to ‘A’; draw another line from ‘C’ to ‘B’.
