Given :- Construct rectangle MUST such that I(MU)=5.2cm, (UT)=6.9cm.

Answer :-

we know that,

  • Each angles of a rectangle are equal to 90° .

so, in right angled ∆TMU right angle at M ,

→ TM² + MU² = UT² (By pythagoras theorem)

→ TM² + 5.2² = 6.9²

→ TM² = 6.9² - 5.2²

→ TM² = (6.9 + 5.2)(6.9 - 5.2)

→ TM² = 12.1 * 1.7

→ TM² = 20.57

→ TM = √(20.57)

→ TM = 4.54 cm .

now, steps of construction :-

  • Draw a line segment TS of 5.2 cm .
  • Draw line segment MT perpendicular to TS at T and US perpendicular to TS at S .
  • Measure MT and US of length 4.54 with the help of scale .
  • Join MU .
  • MUST is required rectangle.
