Draw a line segment AB=4cm

⇒ Take A as center with radius 5cm and draw an arc.

⇒ Take B as center with radius 3.1cm and draw an arc which cuts off previous arc at point C

⇒ Take A as center with radius 4.2cm and draw an arc.

⇒ Take C as center with radius 3.cm and draw an arc which cuts off previous arc at point D

⇒ Join BC,AC,CD,AD and BD

⇒ Measure the length of BD

⇒ We get, BD=5cm
