Construction of dams results in the reduction of fish catch .How?

If dams are been constructed inriver it retains large amount of water and it grabs the suitable living conditions of organisms which habitat in river water.since fishes breed in clean and running water it cannot sustain and breed in stagnaned river water in dam.so as they cant sustain in dam their breed decrease and some eventually die so that we can say that construction of dams on river often results in reduction of fish catch.
