Construction of an electric motor :
- Electric motor consists of a rectangular coil ABCD of insulated copper wire.
- The coil is placed between the two poles of a permanent magnet such that the arms AB and CD are perpendicular to the direction of the magnetic field .
- The ends of the coil are connected to two halves P and Q of a split ring .
- The inner size of these halves are insulated and attached to an excel such that they can rotate easily .
- The external conducting edges of P and Q are two conducting stationary brushes that is X and Y respectively .
- These brushes are connected to a plug key and battery as shown in figure.
