India is a country that has the most corrupted system in the world.

Many consumer movements has been started in India to get a control on these evils.

some major of them are :

from the 1960s the consumer movement began in India. Till the 1970s, consumer movement was mainly restricted to writing articles and holding exhibitions. But there has been an upsurge in the number of consumer groups in recent times.

The level of dissatisfaction with the sellers and service providers was such an extent that the consumers had no choice but to raise their voice. After many years of organized struggle, the government was forced to take notice and finally the Consumer Protection Act (COPRA) was enacted in 1986.

Answer:

The basic idea behind the consumer protection movement is protection of the right of consumers. It was President Kennedy who declared the consumers’ rights for the first time in his message to the American Congress in March 1962.

They were the right to information, the right to choose and the right to be heard.

Later, International Organisation of Consumers’ Union added four more rights, viz, the right to redress, the right to consumer education, the right to healthy environment and the right to basic needs. These rights were incorporated in the United Nation’s Charter of Human Rights. The Government of India also recognised these rights later.
