The consumer protection in India is a myth since a lot of customers are very unhappy with the working of the customer forums in the country. They have not been able to live up to the benefits of the customers

Explanation:

• The Consumer forums are facilities that are provided for the customers by the  provisions under the "Consumer Protection Act". The legislation under this Act contain a lot of benefits for the customers with a trial to be on fast pace. But in reality the forums have not been beneficial for the consumers.  
• There are many cases of harassment and exploitation of the customers by the the suppliers of goods, banks and many other branded companies. The companies are able to get away since they are protected in some way or the other and the case goes on with the sufferings of the consumers.
• There is not much importance given to these forums by the state governments and therefore the importance given to these cases are not on their priority. Some of these state consumer forums have not been able to give confidence to their consumers
