Consumption of a resource is when we use a material to sell and sometimes make into a product and conserving a resource is when a project is started to make sure that the amount of a resource we use can easily be replaced or in some cases stops people using the resource all together eg.ivory 

For example teak is a type of wood that we are consuming but people are conserving it by sourcing teak sustainably. This means that the teak can easily grow back so that us using it will not put under a risk of dying out. 

A typical project that helps to sustain a resource is being taken up by 'triple velvet' for every tree they use they replant three!
