It takes 50 minutes for both containers to have the same amount of water

Solution:

Let "x" be the number of minutes

Container A has 400 liter of water, and is being filled at the rate of 8 liters per minute

Therefore,

Amount of water in container A : 400 + 8x ------- eqn 1

Container  B has 650 litre of water, and is being filled at the rate of 3 litres per minute

Therefore,

Amount of water in container B : 650 + 3x ---------- eqn 2

For two containers to have the same amount of water, eqn 1 must be equal to eqn 2

400 + 8x = 650 + 3x

8x - 3x = 650 - 400

5x = 250

Divide both sides by 5

x = 50

Thus, it takes 50 minutes for both containers to have the same amount of water
