Hey

Ethanoic acid :-

It us commnly known as acetic acid and has a formulae CH3COOH .

It is a type of carboxylic acid .

It's preparation :-

When oxidation of Ethanol takes place , it forms Ethanoic acid .

Reaction included ,

C2H5OH + O2 + ( KMnO4 ) + ( K2Cr2O7 ) ------>
CH3COOH + H2O

Here ( KMnO4 ) and ( K2Cr2O7 ) are catalyst .

So , by this process ethanoic acid gets formed .

# PHYSICAL PROPERTY #

>> Some of these compounds are soluble in water .

>> They are used in making soap and detergent .

#CHEMICAL PROPERTY #

( a ) Reaction with ethanol :-

Ethanol reacts with ethanoic acid to forms ester compounds .

eg .

C2H5OH + CH3COOH -----> CH3COOC2H5 + H2O

CH3COOC2H5 = Ethyl ethanoate

( b ) Reaction with base :-

Ethanoic acid reacts with base ( NaOH ) to form compounds having ions .

eg .

CH3COOH + NaOH ---> CH3OONa + H2O

( CH3COO)-( Na )+ = Sodium acetate .

( c ) Saponification reaction :-

When ester group of compounds is heated in the presence of NaOH ( sodium hydroxide ) , it gives ethanoic acid and ethanol , this reaction is known as Saponification reaction .

CH3COOC2H5 + ( NaOH ) ---> CH3COOH + C2H5OH

CH3COOC2H5 = ethyl ethanoate

CH3COOH = Ethanoic acid

C2H5OH = Ethanol

And , the attachment shows the preparation of ethanoic acid !!

Hope it helped you .

thanks :)

its physical properties are : 1) 5-8 percent of acid with water is called vinegar .
2) melting point of ethanoic acid is 290 k
3)it is also called glacial acetic acid as it freezes during winter season
4)it is a weak acid
its chemical prop are : 1) it combines with ethanol to produce ethyl acetate
( ester ) . it has a general formulae of ch3cooh.
2) it reacts with sodium carbonate and sodium bi carbonate to produce a brisk effervessence ,water and carbondioxide .
3) its reaction with sodium hydroxide is called saponification ,as it is used for making soap.
its preparation :1) oxidation reaction ethanol is converted by catylist oxidising agents like  pottasiumpermanganate or pottasium di chromate.
2) it is also prepared by other chemical methods.
