Given

Three resistor of 2Ω

Total resistance is 6Ω

TO SOLVE:- Arrangement of resistors

SOLUTION

1.Series Combination(CASE 01)

In series combination, resistances are added to get final resistance,

Hence if we set in series

Total resistance is = 6Ω + 6Ω + 6Ω

= 18Ω

Hence it is not satisfying our condition

2. Parallel Combination (CASE 02)

In parallel combination,

Total resistance is,

1/Rp= 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3

=> 1/Rp = 1/6 + 1/6 + 1/6

=> 1/Rp = 3/6

=> 1/Rp = 1/2

=> Rp = 2 Ω

This satisfy our answer.

Hence if we combine three 6Ω resistors in parallel total resistance is 2Ω. (ANS)
