Area of the triangle = |1/2 [x1(y2 - y3) + x2(y3 - y1) + x3(y1 - y2)]|

= |(1/2) [1(-2-16) + 3(16+4) -3(-4+2)]|

= |(1/2) [-18 + 60 + 6]|

= |(1/2) 48|

= 24 units square.
