Continues waterlogging in soil is certainly a great threat to the life of a plant that lives in it.

Waterlogging will happened whenever the soil becomes wet and failed to get back to normal stage again. This will result in minimizing oxygen holding level in the pores of the soil. Along with the oxygen waterlogging will reduce the amount of carbon dioxide and other gases that needed for a plant. This will lead to the death of the plant.

Remedies:

Draining the stagnant water from the field will reduce the effect of waterlogging.
