Waterlogging occurs whenever the soil is wet and there is insufficient oxygen for plants roots to be able to respire.
It is harmful because it causes the insufficient oxygen in the pore space for plant roots to be able to respire it aldo doesn't let the pkant to absorb water and oxygen as well as minerals from the soil which leads to death of a plant...

Waterlogging will happened whenever the soil becomes wet and failed to get back to normal stage again. This will result in minimizing oxygen holding level in the pores of the soil. Along with the oxygen waterlogging will reduce the amount of carbon dioxide and other gases that needed for a plant. This will lead to the death of the plant.

Remedies:

Draining the stagnant water from the field will reduce the effect of waterlogging.
