Answer: Energy is said to be transferred directly when a Buffalo eats grass or a phytoplankton being consumed by a zooplankton.

But when the same buffalo is consumed by man there occurs an indirect flow energy.

Such situation is most likely to happen in a FOOD WEB. Here organisms have more than one option or alternative for getting food.

Omnivores like cockroaches and crows derive energy directly or indirectly when they consume different kinds of food.

Answer:

Food chains describe the flow of energythrough an ecosystem. Primary producers pump energy into an ecosystem from an environmental source, and this energy is then passed from one organism to the next. Energy is lost between trophic levels in the form of heat through cell respiration, faeces, tissue loss and death.
