Going Places by AR Barton brings us into the world of imagination, which takes us from reality. The character of Sophie is a vivid portrayal and contrasts perfectly between reality and fiction
Explanation:
- Sophie is basically a dreamer. One day she dreams of owning a boutique and shares her thoughts with her friend Jansie. She tries to make her see reality but Sophie refuses to accept it and thinks that it would be easy for her to earn a lot of money. She dreams of becoming a manager or an actress or a fashion designer.
- Sophie dates Danny Casey, an Irish football player, in her fantasies and fantasy world. She tells her family about the fictional Danny meeting and makes it so believable and realistic. So much so, she makes them believe she'd see him again. she forgets her humble background, her little house in her dream world; Sophie just ' works ' in her dreams, far from reality. For every adolescent who makes a journey to the world of dreams it is a metaphor.
- In the realm of fantasy, Sophie represents a teenager who is lost. She enjoyed daydreaming and lost contact with the truth of life as a result. In fact, she has high aspirations and great self respect. She does not accept the idea of working in a biscuit party given her poor socio-economic background, which for her girls is transparent about their credentials and background. Rather she thinks she would get a job or become an actress, not less than the boss. Sophie always dreamt of a life of sophistication and elegance. Sophie, as she normally dreams of a world of luxury and beauty, for which she felt she was the most appropriate.
