Answer:

Public opinion can be influenced by age, gender, income, hobbies, race, religion, occupation, etc., as well as the economic situation during or concerning a public issue. Public opinion can also be influenced by mass media which includes television, magazines, radio, and newspapers.

Media democracy is a democratic approach to media studies that advocates for the reform of mass media to strengthen public service broadcasting and develop participation in alternative media and citizen journalism in order to create a mass media system that informs and empowers all members of society.

To effectively play its role in dissemination of information and as a medium for the public to express their opinions, the media should be free from pressure, threat, censorship, and control by any individual or group.

But the freedom of the media has been deteriorating around the world over the past decade. In some of the most influential democracies in the world, populist leaders have overseen concerted attempts to throttle the independence of the media sector. While the threats to global media freedom are real and concerning in their own right, their impact on the state of democracy is what makes them truly dangerous.

The fundamental right to seek and disseminate information through an independent press is under attack, and part of the assault has come from an unexpected source. Elected leaders in many democracies, who should be press freedom’s staunchest defenders, have made explicit attempts to silence critical media voices and strengthen outlets that serve up favorable coverage. The trend is linked to a global decline in democracy itself: The erosion of press freedom is both a symptom of and a contributor to the breakdown of other democratic institutions and principles, a fact that makes it especially alarming.

The media typically plays the role of a gatekeeper, scorekeeper, and a watchdog. The media as a gatekeeper simply means that the elites who control a particular news entity decide what gets on the air or in a newspaper.

The freedom of the media has been suppressed by the rich and the powerful. It is no longer independent and free. This is not the situation the media of a free country should be in. It must be set free because the people deserve unbiased reports and the truth.

History has proven time and again over the centuries that press freedom can rebound from even lengthy stints of repression when given the opportunity. The basic desire for democratic liberties, including access to honest and fact-based journalism, can never be extinguished.
