Dhurjati Prasad Mukerji was a economist and historian who is known as the "Father of Sociology" in India. His work became the base of sociology in India. 

He introduced different concepts and aspects to the study of the society. His contributions included;

(i) Study of the society with the aspect of traditions and modernity. 

(ii) Study of individuals developing integration through the pursuit of knowledge. 

(iii) Introduction of the importance of economics, psychology, philosophy and history in the study of the society. 

(iv) Introduction of 
 dynamism and meaningfulness of social life in sociology. 

(v) Emphasis on the economic effect of the study of Marxism.

D.P.Mukherjee is known as India's father of sociology. He was born in Bengal in a "Brahmin family". His most notable contribution to the development of sociology in India is as follows:
