Kanhoji Angre (1669 – 1729) not only developed the Maratha navy, but also forced the British to form a naval force, which evolved into the modern Indian Navy.
Kanhoji Angre was the undefeated Maratha Naval Chief during the 18th century.
He was appointed the admiral, by the Chief of Satara in 1698.
