Though Gandhiji was not directly involved in the making of Indian Constitution, however, still he had a major contribution .

The very essence of our Constitution has been derived from the notion of the national movement which reached to its zenith with Gandhiji's leadership. Gandhiji's ideas of uplifting the poor , supporting indigenous industries (khadi) , women empowerment , concept of Harijans etc were the very soul of our iconic national movement.

Post indepenece, the newly elected constituent assembly debated these ideas and finally enshrined them in the Constitution in the form of The Directive Principles of State Policy (DPSP) classified separately as the Gandhian principles
