conventional symbols are accepted because they represent different physical features on a map and are not drawn to scale. so it is very easy to use a map having symbols.

There are certain conventional symbols which are the result of international agreement and are indeed used to depict roads,buildings, water bodies, trees , grass etc. They ensure grater understanding of these different features on the maps.
