Satyajit Ray and Gaston Roberge’s meeting at 9 a.m. Sunday. This is their meeting schedule from the time their friendship started and lasted for 22 years.
Gaston Roberge: Manikda, you seem to be upset? Did the people who were here upset you in any way?
Satyajit Ray: I’m unable to find my “Charulata” Screenplay missing.
Gaston Roberge: (speaking in Bengali) Do you know who stole it?
Satyaji Ray: Yes. I’m very sure of the culprit
G. R.: Then why the hesitation?
(He got shocked by Ray’s reply)
S.R. : No, it will affect that famous personality’s reputation.
G.R. : I’m really shocked by your humbleness and human concern.
S.R.: Smiles and waves.
G.R. : Departs from that place.
Gaston Roberge: "Manikda, do you know before coming to India the first Indian film that I saw was the Apu Trilogy in New York. I was very impressed by Pather Panchali."
Satyajit Ray: "Good."
Gaston Roberge: "I would like to start a centre, Chitrabani."
Satyajit Ray: "For what purpose?"
Gaston Roberge: "To initiate the people to the study of films."
Satyajit Ray: "That is a good idea."
Gaston Roberge: "I will be happy if you join me in my endeavour."
Satyajit Ray: "Sure, we will work together."
Gaston Roberge: "Thank you so much. Shall we meet every Sunday at 9:00 am at your residence?"
Satyajit Ray: "Yes."
