Ethanol can be converted to ethene in presence of concentrated sulphuric acid. It is called as dehydration reaction.

CH3-CH2-OH → (Concentrated H2SO4) CH2=CH2 + H2O

first you need to convert it to ethene and then ethane.

  • from ethene,

first you need to convert it to ethane.

after converting to ethane, now you can use :

  • acidified k2cr2o7
  • Cu tube at 200°C

now by controlled or catalytic oxidation of any alkane will give you its corresponding alcohol.

thus,

now convert using the compounds and at the respective conditions.
