The aldohexose is selectively oxidised with Br-water to convert aldehyde into carboxylic acid. ... Wohl's degradation: Here the aldohexose is converted into an oxime by reaction with hydroxylamine. This is further reacted with sod. ✔✔

Hey Dear,

◆ Kiliani–Fischer synthesis -

  • It lengthens the aldose chain by 1 CH(OH) & converting it to hexose.
  • This reaction takes place through formation of cyanohydrin.
  • First the aldose is treated with aq.NaCN to form cyanohydrin which is then hydrolysed to get susequent aldose.

# Reaction -

Aldopentose is first treated with aq.NaCN and then heated with water to obtain aldohexose.

Aldopentose + (NaCN/H2O) --> Aldohexose

Hope this helps you. Keep asking..
