Benzene diazonium chloride can be converted into fluorobenzene by following step of reactions -

(i). React benzene diazonium chloride with Tetrafluoroboric acid  ( HBF₄ ) , benzene diazonium fluoroborate is formed .

(ii). Heat benzene diazonium fluoroborate in the presence of silicon dioxide ( SO_{2} ) . It decomposes and gives fluorobenzene .

  • This reaction is known as Balz - Shiemann reaction .
