Conversion of benzyl alcohol to phenylethanoic acid

Answer:

Benzyl alcohol on oxidation forms an aldehyde and then benzoic acid. Phenylethanoic acid has one additional carbon atom as compared to benzyl alcohol. Hence benzyl alcohol is not converted directly to phenylethanoic acid on oxidation.
